Pharmacy Shelving
The very nature of a Pharmacist’s merchandise demands an extensive facility for storage and dispensing. Traditional pharmacy shelving methods, using fixed wooden shelving, have been in most pharmacies at one time or another, with the only modernisation being a move to Melamine or mdf materials. This kind of pharmacy shelving was relatively cheap to buy although it often needed a skilled carpenter to install the pharmacy shelving and because of the low densities it provided, the pharmacy shelving tended to take up every available square inch of wall space leading to pharmacy shelving being fitted too high to be reached comfortably which is thought too undesirable in today’s “health and safety” regulated world.
This rigid system of pharmacy shelving didn’t help the pharmacist when it came to stock control. Any pharmacy shelving higher than eye level meant that only the front facing could be seen at any one time and fallen boxes could also be hidden at the rear of the pharmacy shelving. The precarious way in which the stock was stacked could often lead to the pharmacist or assistants retrieving fallen stock, from the floor, on a daily basis. Added to this, the “first in, first out” system for product with a “sell by date” was difficult to maintain without removing all of the existing stock.
Not surprisingly an alternative pharmacy shelving system in the shape of sliding, angled drawers like Pharmashelve (pharmacy shelving), designed particularly for Pharmacists, became more and more popular. The individual pharmacy shelving drawers, of which in Pharmashelve there are ten, are closely stacked and work on the same principal as a filing cabinet in which the organised contents of any one drawer can only be seen as the drawer is pulled out. Stock density is immediately increased by up to four or five times whilst an improved stock control is also evident.
The sloping pharmacy shelving (pharmashelve) drawer means that products move to the front as it is used enabling newer stock replacements to be easily added to the rear of the pharmacy shelving shelf. The acrylic pharmacy shelving shelf dividers also break the depth of the pharmacy shelving shelf into more efficient areas of required capacity. Manufactured in steel and powder coated makes for a strong and durable pharmacy shelving shelf that is easily cleaned.
Pulling out a pharmacy shelving drawer enables the Pharmacist to easily see all the stock at once, improving stock control. The spaces between the products are good visual indicators on the current stock situation. Counting and replacing stock is easier and quicker freeing up more time for other, more value added, activities such as consultations.
Indeed, many Pharmacists have been under increasing pressure to find more space in their pharmacies for consultation areas. Pharmacy shelving by Pharmashelve allows more stock to be kept in less space which, added to improved stock control and a more organised working environment offers the Pharmacist a modern, efficient and value added alternative.
Steve Turner, from Pharmashelve, says, “I’ve never met anyone who, after trying our shelves, said they preferred their old shelves. If there are still Pharmacists undecided they are more than welcome to visit our showroom and try Pharmashelve out for themselves”
As testimony to its success Pharmashelve (pharmacy shelving) has already been installed into over 300 of UK’s leading High Street chemist.
Increased demand and subsequent output has enabled the price to be reduced drastically. Pharmashelve (pharmacy shelving) is now virtually half the price similar systems were five years ago.
