Pharmashelve installed as part of significant hospital improvement programme

Pharmashelve, the specialist range of pharmacy shelving, storage, merchandising and dispensing draw solutions manufactured by Crusader, has just been installed into a leading hospital pharmacy as part of a major investment and improvement programme.

Building work on the £200,000 scheme at the Dianne Price of Wales Hospital in Grimsby started in October and the pharmacy was officially opened on Thursday February 14th at 1pm.

A new reception area was created and the waiting area upgraded to improve the service given to patients. The new Orthopaedic and Fracture Clinic currently being built at the hospital will take away some of the windows in the pharmacy – so two internal offices have been demolished to improve the natural light into the new pharmacy.

As part of the pharmacy improvement works, 16 of the Pharmashelve bays were supplied and installed by Pharmashelve. Just over 60 square metres of storage was created by these space saving units which is equivalent to 240 m of traditional shelving.

From start to finish, the installation of the Pharmashelve units was completed within 5 hours. In addition to creating a significant amount of additional storage space, the speed and ease at which the installation took place, another remarkable feature of this project was the low cost of the entire pharmashelve element which came in at under £12,000.

This initial project was such a success that the hospital has already placed an additional order for a series of deep draw units to hold and store finished prescriptions awaiting collection.

There were a number of issues surrounding maximising the use of space available and allowing the light to flow through the pharmacy and I think these factors were key in the decision to use Pharmashelve.”

Trust professional lead for pharmacy Martyn Turner said: “We apologise for any inconvenience experienced by patients while the building work has taken place. However we hope the new area will be a considerable improvement on what we have had previously and we hope the new layout will help improve our work.”
